Popular-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting

What are pop-ups?

Pop-up windows, or pop-ups, are windows that appear automatically without your permission. They vary in size but commonly don't cover the whole screen. Some pop-ups open on top of the current Firefox window, while others announced underneath Firefox (pop-unders).

Firefox allows y'all to control both pop-ups and pop-unders in Firefox Options Preferences Settings . Pop-up blocking is turned on by default, so you don't take to worry about enabling it to prevent pop-ups from actualization in Firefox.

When blocking a popular-up, Firefox displays an data bar (if it hasn't been previously dismissed – see below), also as an icon popup_icon_fx57 in the address bar.

Blocking pop-ups may interfere with some websites: Some websites, including some cyberbanking sites, use popular-ups for important features. Blocking all popular-ups disables such features. Note: Blocking pop-ups may not ever work and may interfere with some websites. For more information, see the What are Pop-ups? section higher up.

Pop-ups not being blocked

Is the popular-upwards coming from Firefox?

The pop-up may not actually be coming from Firefox. You can determine where the popular-up is coming from past the appearance of the window.

  • If you see the address bar with the Tracking Protection button and the Site Identity button (a shield and a padlock) in the popular-up window, the pop-up is coming from Firefox.
  • If you don't run into these buttons, you may take malware on your computer that causes the pop-ups. For help, see Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Is the pop-upward blocker on and enabled for this site?

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select . Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select . Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select .

  2. Select the panel and become to the Permissions section.
  3. Make certain the Block pop-up windows checkbox is checked.
  4. To the correct of Block pop-up windows, click the Exceptions… push. A dialog box volition open up with a list of sites that are allowed to evidence pop-ups.
  5. If the site that's opening pop-ups is listed hither, select it and press Remove Website.
  6. Click on Save Changes to update your changes.
  7. Close the about:preferences page. Whatever changes you've fabricated will automatically be saved.
